ROUTE
Kilimanjaro ranks among the world's most prominent peaks as a massive trio of volcanoes rising from the plains of Kenya and Tanzania. It presents extremes in altitude, a variety of micro-climates and terrain on its slopes, and thus there are a multitude of routes up to and around its highest point of Kibo, at 5,895 meters (19,340 ft).
A vast web-like network of trekking trails and climbing routes criss-cross it's flanks. We hope to explore a few of these as our inclusive (and exclusive!) expedition ventures upwards...seeking a 'road less traveled'. We will not rushing our ascent and we will be taking time to enjoy the wildlife of the plains and the flora of the jungles. Camps will be assembled and dissasembled each evening...and over the course of about ten fantastic days our goals will be realized!
Every ascent will utilize a series of camps at various Huts along the different routes. We plan to ascend the western flank by way of the Shira Hut, and continuing around the South Circuit Path by way of the Barranco Huts to connect to the more popular and direct Barafu Route to the summit.
Summit day on any mountain is tough, and this will be no exception, but a long round trip hike with an alpine start will let us enjoy the summit at sunrise and a tasty dinner back in camp well before sunset. By descending the South East side of the mountain we will have completed a West to East traverse of Kilimanjaro and a Kibo summit!
